Nuclear pressure vessel inspection

As a critical part of the reactor coolant pressure boundary, pressure vessel integrity is vital for nuclear plant safety. Stringent standards must be maintained, which is best achieved by regular inspection, but this must be performed rapidly during scheduled outages. The vessel’s bevel and weld must be well controlled and adhere to strict criteria, but inspection can only take place in-situ.

Robotic solution

OMS provides a robotic inspection solution which uses laser sensors to measure the pressure vessel’s bevel in-situ and confirm quality. After the weld root pass, our remote IVT system can then scan the weld to confirm it meets criteria. Access can be achieved either via the manual lift or by attaching to the robotic arm. Bevel and weld quality are confirmed, leading to a safer and longer-lasting asset.

Features:

- Rapid bevel and weld scan in-situ

- IVT following weld root pass

- System qualified for nuclear environments

- System capable of handling large diameters and thick walls of nuclear pressure vessels

- R&D-led approach to ensure system meets customer requirements
