OMS measurement service helps clients avoid rejected pipe
OMS has recently carried out internal laser measurement to size features that had been located with a borescope. The third-party borescope produced 2D images which showed that there were some features that may have caused the pipe to be out of specification.
Our client called us in to inspect the pipe with our laser dimensioning system, the Autotool, which produces detailed 3D images of pipe features. The Autotool was deployed throughout the length of the pipe, measuring the height and size of the features found by the borescope accurately. We provided our clients with detailed data that enabled them to identify whether or not the features were within tolerance.
In this case, some minor wrinkling was located but laser measurement showed it was not severe enough to cause the pipes to be out of specification. Our client had no further need to quarantine any of their pipe or remove any of it from the population. They were also reassured that the pipe would not be rejected by their clients at a later stage.
Paul Eagle, OMS Sales Director, said, ‘Using a laser measurement system such as the OMS Autotool provides a far superior understanding of pipe features than a borescope. We were pleased to give our clients comprehensive information that reassured them on the condition of their pipe, helping them save production costs by avoiding rejecting pipe that was demonstrably within tolerance.’
